Shrek: Forever After (KIDS CLUB)

Shrek: Forever After (U)

Everyone's favourite jolly green giant is back with the release ofthe latest Shrek movie, Forever after which starts previewing this weekend.

So far he's battled dragons, curses and saved princesses and magic kingdoms but here  the ogre faces his greatest challenge yet, an alternate reality.

So Shrek and Fiona are happily married and just about coping with family life. Shrek is known as a bit of a local celebrity and spends his time signing autographs and changing nappies, a far cry from his scary ogre roots. Becoming a bit fed up with all this domesticity he signs a pact with the evil smooth talking Rumpelstiltskin who also manages to con Princess Fiona's parents into signing a deal with him too in exchange for stopping their daughter becoming an ogre. After the agreements are signed and sealed Shrek finds himself in a twisted version of his  world where he and Fiona have never met, ogres are hunted and Rumpelstiltskin is king. So the ogre has to try and find a way to undo what he's done and get things back to normal.

I love Shrek, especially the first two movies although I wasn't as keen on the last one as I thought it was all losing momentum a bit. It's hard to believe it's almost a decade since the ogre's first big screen outing and this is supposed to be his last, although if it rakes it in at the box office I have a feeling that could change. There are some new characters here and it manages to stay fresh in parts, mainly down to the emphasis on character as much as the one-liners we've come to expect. In some ways it feels a bit lower key than its predecessors but it has our favourite characters, a funny script and a whole lot of heart. A great movie for kids and adults alike, as we've come to expect from the Shrek franchise - it works well in 3D too.
