In the news today (click on headline for more):

The protection of one of Newbury's most popular green spaces is back on the agenda tonight.

A decision is expected this evening on whether a controversial new youth centre can be built in Kingsclere.

Police in West Berkshire are searching for more volunteers to keep our streets safe.

A Newbury primary school has high hopes for the future, as it aims to come out of special measures in just over a year's time.

Bosses at Newbury's Corn Exhange say the venue has a strong future - despite announcing three redundancies.

Attack In Greenham

Local police have just put out a witness appeal after a man was attacked in Greenham earlier this week.

The 41 year old was walking home on Bank Holiday Monday in the afternoon when he was knocked over the back of the head.

He was found confused and wandering the streets by a member of the public who took him to the West Berkshire Community Hospital.

Police desperately want to speak to this person or anyone else who might have seen the man - you can call PC Jon Smith at Newbury Police Station on 0845 8 505 505.

Back To School

Hundreds of fresh faced five year olds are about to brave one of the most nerve-wracking and exciting days of their life so far.

1,843 children start their first day of primary school today as schools across West Berkshire head back after their summer holidays.

Pharmacy Feedback

Do you find it easy to get to your local pharmacy? Our health service wants to find out if we're happy with what they offer.

NHS Berkshire West is looking for our views on whether we have enough nearby pharmacies, whether they are open at the right times and whether we get the advice we need.

The PCT wants the help of patients, pharmacists and dispensing doctors to try and improve the service where possible.

Click here to access the consultation. Or you can pick one up from your local pharmacy, GP, library or council offices.

Stryker Helps Out

A local business has given up its valuable time to help improve the lives of elderly people here.

A team of helping hands from medical company, Stryker, volunteered at the Willows Edge Care Home in Newbury recently.

They spent their time clearing and weeding the garden and painting murals in the corridors around the building.

Pat Rolfe, the Manager of Willows Edge, said: "we are extremely grateful to Stryker for helping us. These are things that make a great difference to the residents and we would like them to know how much we appreciate what they have done for us".

Century For Hungerford Footballer

A West Berkshire footballer is celebrating after scoring his one hundredth goal for a local team.

Ian Conncannon plays for Hungerford Town and hit the target on Saturday when he scored the equaliser in their FA Cup match against Moneyfields.

He has now notched up a hundred goals in 105 competitive first team appearances since his arrival at the club in 2007.
