All of the local football games were victims of the poor weather conditions this weekend. Thatcham waited until the morning of the game but the two inches of snow was too much for the groundsman to remove and the game had to be cancelled.

Keith Moss of Newbury FC was keen for the game to go ahead at Faraday Road, but after the referee consulted with the two captains the game was called off.
Despite the freezing conditions, Newbury Blues' game against Otley went ahead at Monks Lane. They were thankful to Newbury Racecourse for lending them a huge cover to prevent the pitch from getting icy. Newbury were even more delighted that the game was on as they won 20-14. It was 7-7 going into half time after Newbury were awarded a penalty try. Otley scored straight from kick off in the second half, but Newbury fought back well and the returning Chris Ridges scored in the corner to give Newbury Blues victory.
Reading had many problems when they travelled to Ashton Gate to play Bristol City. The club departed with Brendan Rodgers in midweek, but this result will help matters within the club. Bristol City took the lead through a Paul Hartley penalty in the first half. Reading dominated the game from there on but didn't look like finding an equaliser. That was until stoppage time when Simon Church popped up at the near post to head in a Jimmy Kebe cross. |
