A few weeks ago we had Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief and now the Greek gods are back in this remake of The Clash of the Titans. It's full of all the mythical creatures and CGI you'd expect and follows the adventures of Zeus's mortal son as he tries to stop the evil gods causing chaos on earth. The cast is pretty impressive including Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes and Sam Worthington and there are plenty of gods and monsters to keep our hero Perseus busy.
Now I remember the original with it's mechanical owl and flying horse, Pegasus. When I saw that movie as a child I was completely awestruck. Ok by today's standards the special effects are clunkier than that owl but at the time it blew me away with all its scary mythical beasties. I can't really rmember the story but I remember the effects to this day.
Like the original, the story and action in this remake is all over the place and it feels a bit chaotic and disjointed but it's really all about the visuals. The CGI and re-imagining of the creatures, especially Medusa, is very impressive and it's darker and more grown up than the one I remember. I was sad the mechanical owl had been reduced to a mere reference and Pegasus doesn't properly appear till the end but if you're not wrapped up in nostalgia for the orginal you'll probably find this enjoyable enough.
